چکیده

A state of the art numerical tool has been developed to simulate the QsTj propagation and the absorption of coexisting diffemt types of waves in a tokamak geometxy. The code includes a numerical solution of the three-dimensional (R, Z, 0) toroidal wave equation for the electric field of the different waves in the WKBJ approximation. At each step of integration, the two-dimensional (VI!, v~ Fokker-Planck equation is solved in the presence of quasilinear diffhsion coefficients. The electron Landau damping of the waves is modeled taking into account the interaction of the wave electric fiekls with the quasilinearly modified distribution fimction. Consistently, the code calculates the radial profiles of non-inductively generated current densities, the transmitted power traces and the total power damping curves. Synergistic effkts among the diffenimttype of waves (e.g., lower hybrid and ion Bernstein waves) are studied through the separation of the contributions of the single wave from the effxts due to their coexistence.

Simultaneous Power Deposition Detection of Two EC Beams with the BIS Analysis in Moving TCV Plasmas

Abstract. Modulation of power amplitude is a widespread to determine the radial absorption profile of externally launched power in fusion plasmas. There are many techniques to analyze the plasma response to such a modulation. The break-in-slope (BIS) analysis can draw an estimated power deposition profile for each power step up. In this paper, the BIS analysis is used to monitor the power depos...

Ion Cyclotron Range of Frequencies Mode Conversion Electron Heating in Deuterium-Hydrogen Plasmas in the Alcator C-Mod Tokamak

Localized direct electron heating by mode-converted ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) waves in D(H) tokamak plasmas has been clearly observed for the first time in Alcator C-Mod. Both onand off-axis (high field side) mode conversion electron heating (MCEH) have been observed. The MCEH profile was obtained from a break in slope analysis of electron temperature signals in the presence of ...

Full wave simulations of lower hybrid waves in toroidal geometry with Non-Maxwelian electrons

Analysis of the propagation of waves in the lower hybrid range of frequencies in the past has been done using ray tracing and the WKB approximation. Advances in algorithms and the availability of massively parallel computer architectures has permitted the solving of the Maxwell-Vlasov system for wave propagation directly [Wright et al., Phys. Plasmas (2004), 11, 2473-2479]. These simulations ha...

Coupled Ray-Tracing and Fokker-Planck EBW Modeling for Spherical Tokamaks

The AMR (Antenna—Mode-conversion—Ray-tracing) code [1, 2] has been recently coupled with the LUKE [3] Fokker-Planck code. This modeling suite is capable of complex simulations of electron Bernstein wave (EBW) emission, heating and current drive. We employ these codes to study EBW heating and current drive performance under spherical tokamak (ST) configurations—typical NSTX discharges are employ...
